The front page begins with some nice reporting on the siege of Vicksburg with reports headed "From Vicksburg" which include some over-optimistic thoughts.. That perfect confidence prevails among our men.

They are fully able to hold Vicksburg as long as they have anything to eat. Grant's ditches are within 100 yards of our fortifications in one place, but nobody is uneasy about this. This Mississippi stronghold would fall to the Northern forces just 2 days after the publication of this newspaper.

Also on the front page are: "Seizure of a Steamer & Escape of Confederates" "From Vicksburg" "Slave Labor For the Coast" and various notices and advertisements. The back page has more war-related items including: "The Situation in Mississippi" "Funeral Arrangements & Obsequies" "Way-Side Hospital Columbia" "Another Company" "Rosecrans' Official Report of the Battle of Murfreesboro" and other items. Complete as a single sheet newspaper, never bound nor trimmed with wide margins, mild wear at the folds with toning to a portion of the back page.

Two small archival mends near the margins of the back page. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind.

They are guaranteed to be original! Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Women's Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction. For this specific item, A U. The S&H will be calculated by using the highest item's S&H as the base cost, and then adding a small amount for each additional newspaper. Timothy Hughes Rare Newspapers P. Desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things. Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.
