Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper: THE DAILY SOUTHERN GUARDIAN, Columbia, South Carolina, Oct. A rather rare title and great that it includes the word "Southern". The front page is mostly taken up with ads & military notices but there are also: "The Capture & Destruction of the New York Steamer Roanoke" "The War in the Southwest - From Mobile" The St. Albans Raid" "Proclamation Appointing a Day For Public Worship which is signed in type: Jefferson Davis. The back page has over a column taken up with: Correspondence Between Generals Lee and Grant Relative to the Treatment of Negro Soldiers & the Retaliatory Measure of Gen. Butler which has a letter signed by each: R. Lee, Gen'l, and U. Other war-related reports as well.
