Rare CONFEDERATE Raleigh NC North Carolina CIVIL WAR Nearing End 1864 Newspaper. Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THE DAILY PROGRESS, Raleigh, North Carolina, Feb. 13, 1865 Rare Confederate title Civil War nears the end Southern pessimist Raleigh was one of the last major cities of the South to fall into the hands of Sherman, surrendering on April 13, 1865, just one day before Lincoln was assassinated. This rare Confederate title is from the latter weeks of the Civil War.
The front page has two Acts the North Carolina legislature concerning the Home Guard. Also: "From Richmond" "From Charleston" and: "Later from the North". The back page has: "The Situation" which is an interesting editorial on the failings of the Confederacy, including. But little to say about the military situation.
Sherman is in South Carolina, seemingly having things his own way... He is reported as moving on both Augusta and Columbia... We know nothing of the strength of our own force in South Carolina...
