Rare Confederate Columbus Georgia Battle of Antietam 1862 Civil War Newspaper. Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper: DAILY COLUMBUS ENQUIRER, Georgia, October 2, 1862. Very rare Confederate publication Battle of Antietam - Sharpsburg MD Bloodiest one day battle in America. Certainly one of the less common Confederate titles from the Civil War. Columbus is in Southwest Georgia on the Alabama border very near Montgomery. Almost the entirely of page 2 is taken up with a very lengthy & detailed account headed: "The Battle of Sharpsburg" datelined the day after the battle. Yesterday was fought at this place the severest battle that has yet marked the annals of the war... Alsop inside this issue: "The Great Battle" which concerns Antietam; "Progress and Events of the War" "From the North-East" and other items. Most of the back page is taken up with the: "Constitution of the State of Georgia, Ratified July 2, 1861".

Four pages, various toning and light water staining, two small archival mends inside, generally nice. It was in Columbus where the last battle of the Civil War was fought.

Note: The Battle of Palmito Ranch in Texas actually occurred weeks after the Battle of Columbus, but the engagement at Palmito Ranch happened after the Confederate government had dissolved and the Confederacy was extinct.
