Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper: DAILY COLUMBUS ENQUIRER, Georgia, Nov. 10, 1862 Very rare Confederate publication From the last battle site of the Civil War Certainly one of the less common Confederate titles from the Civil War. Columbus is in Southwest Georgia on the Alabama border very near Montgomery.

Over half of page 2 is taken up with a lengthy: "Special Message" by the governor of Georgia, concluded in two future issues. The great struggle for liberty & independence in which we have been engaged during the past year, against a powerful & relentless enemy... Other items inside include: "From Our Western Army" "From the Potomac Army" "Progress & Events of the War" Gov.

Brown's Message" "Reported Fight in Virginia" "Yankee Advance in North Carolina and more. Four pages, even toning, various damp staining, otherwise good. It was in Columbus where the last battle of the Civil War was fought. Note: The Battle of Palmito Ranch in Texas actually occurred weeks after the Battle of Columbus, but the engagement at Palmito Ranch happened after the Confederate government had dissolved and the Confederacy was extinct. In the "Official Records", the Battle of Columbus is referred to as the closing conflict of the war.
