Civil War era Bible owned by Confederate Soldier during the war. American Bible Society, New York, 1858. Measures 5.75" x 3.75" x 1.75. Original black leather binding with leather foldover closure strap. Gilt title on spine and gilt edges on three sides of text block. Given the age and what this book lived through, it is in remarkable condition!

This Bible was owned by James A. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company "D" of the 3rd Battalion of Tennessee Cavalry, a strong part of Carter's 1st Cavalry Regiment in 1862. James Turley's name is written in ink of the ffep, along with Athens, Tennessee in pencil. It also has a paper label in the rear identifying it as part of James Turley's personal library.

Lastly, there is documentation of the Turley family genealogy between the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, so it is a great family genealogy resource as well!
