23, 1862 Rare from the Confederacy Battle of Antietam - Sharpsburg Given the date, it is not surprising that the front page has an account of the Battle of Antietam, or as referred to by the Confederates: the Battle of Sharpsburg. And great to have this report in a Confederate newspaper. Almost a full column is headed: "From Our Army In Maryland--The Battle of Sharpsburg & Fall of Harper's Ferry", with a subhead: "The Surrender of Harper's Ferry--Further Particulars".
