Original Georgia Civil War Sword! Confederate Cavalry Saber
This is an original antique Georgia Confederate issue cavalry saber! This is the British Model 1853 saber, and it has the Georgia "G" marking on the left side of the 34-1/4 blade, and the mark of the London supplier. On the spine of the blade. This saber has an iron guard and the grip is made of leather over wood.
The leather and wood have shrunk through the 150+ years of this saber's life, but they are well-preserved, and do not show any losses. The blade appears to have never been sharpened.
All the metal has a very smooth finish, and there is an "X" that is marked on the left side of the grip. The scabbard has some light speckling and some very minor dents. The throat appears to me to be of the period and it was hand-fitted to the scabbard body.
All in all, a good old Georgia Confederate cavalry saber that I've had in my collection for over 25 years. For international and other areas, please send us your address.
