In a short while, however, the Virginia succeeded in getting off... We are rejoiced to say... The editorial discusses the historic naval battle as well, even with some prophetic vision with his introductory remarks. The most important movements that ever occurred on this continent are not going on before our eyes. The brilliant and astonishing success of the'Virginia' in the waters off Hampton Roads opens a new chapter in naval warfare, & marks a new era in the struggle which the south is engaged in... Plus there is a related page 3 item headed: "The Late Naval Victory in the Roads" which begins.

Our late naval victory, achieved by the Merrimac, was rendered more complete & conspicuous by an official dispatch received yesterday by the Secretary of War... Four pages, never bound nor trimmed (desired), ragged at the bottom of the front leaf affects ads only with no effect to page 3 text, a few minor edge tears, generally in nice condition. Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc. , we at History's Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout NO MORE! It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Women's Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree!

Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction. For this specific item, A U.
