Confederate Memorial Address Delivered at Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, Virginia, May 19, 1887. Ripple upper left hand corner of cover. Pamphlet measures 5 1/2 x 9. (March 13, 1830 - September 2, 1901) was born in Yorktown, Virginia.

He enrolled at the University of Virginia for the 1846 session continued his study of law there through the 1849 session, residing at 18 East Range. In 1849 he also studied law at (now) Washington & Lee. He moved to Hampton, Virginia and practiced law until taking a commission as first lieutenant, 32nd Virginia. He mustered out as a major, resumed the practice of law, worked as a journalist ("The Whig" in Richmond), politician and judge. This memorial address indicates that he was moderate, not a partisan of the Lost Cause.
