Never contacted me or paid for this item. This rare and genuine ANTIQUE English Bowie Knife was made by one A.
(Abraham) Leon who worked out of number 11 Solly Street Sheffield, UK. Leon can be found listed in early UK knife & Razor maker's directories Circa 1840's on.The silver plate on the handle represented the Louisiana State coat-of-arms the bird is a Pelican, on a nest, feeding her young brood of chicks, under seven stars a star for each of the seven seceding states: AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, SC, TX. Later the same motif was used, with an additional star for each state that had seceded, a total of 11? This must therefore be an EARLY Confederate weapon. The Pelican was the symbol for Louisiana and I assume that the 7 stars are for the 7 States of the Confederacy.
BLADE Length = 8 or 200 mm. NO RESERVE and start price is LESS than what I paid for it many years ago.
Now it has TWO sheaths, one the original "tempoary" maker's scabbard made only from bookbinder's leather and cardboard beneath AND a mafnificent MODERN tradesman-made thick Bovine leather sheath custom-made & "fits like a glove". The condition has been shown faithfully in the many photographs in my listing. The horn handle scales show signs of bug-munching and the blade has been heavily sharpened and over cleaned to remove rust. These IMAGES ARE my actual CONDITION DESCRIPTION So if I have failed to show anything clearly?Any questions please MESSAGE ME. Receipt will be issued on request. Add a map to your own listings.
