Colonel Minor Meriwether, a notable Kentuckian and US Army Tennessee River levee engineer prewar, was Chief Engineer at Vicksburg & later on Richard Taylor's staff. An original Confederate manuscript order from Meriwether as Major & Chief Engineer, 1st Division Western Dept of the CSA at Columbus (Kentucky) Jan 14, 1862 directing a daily levee of 200 soldiers for work on the artillery batteries. The order is sgd by Capt JA Porter, also serving under General Polk at Columbus, Kentucky, Army of Tennessee. Comes w service info for Meriwether of St Louis & Christian County, Kentucky and Captain Porter who also served under General AP Stewart.
