Very Scarce Civil War Hooded Brown Leather CONFEDERATE Saddle Stirrups. Nice pair of hooded leather CONFEDERATE saddle stirrups.
Nicely made of wide wooden stirrup foot holds, covered by thick, stiff russet brown leather hoods. Hooded stirrups were commonly used during the Civil War and brown leather hoods are typically attributed to CONFEDERATE saddles and Cavalrymen. They helped protect the boots and feet from brush and tree branches, etc. I would think they were CSA or state issued, as HOODED STIRRUPS WERE NOT USED ON CIVILIAN SADDLES and they would not have been brought from home. These have a great aged appearance to them and great patina. They are in excellent condition, with nice, smooth leather. Would make great decorations/display items in any CIVIL WAR/CONFEDERATE/CAVALRY collection or display. Measure 7 1/2" high x 6 1/2" wide x 3 1/2 deep. The item "Great Pair of Antique Civil War HOODED CONFEDERATE STIRRUPS, Saddle, Cavalry" is in sale since Sunday, December 29, 2019.
