I have collecting these for over 25 years. It is very rare to see one of these with a casting flaw that doe snot have a hole in the shank---I have only seen a handful of these in al those years---I have inspected this one closely, and the hole in the shank has not been broken like seen sometimes---the hole is not present. This is a casting flaw that I believed left the factory in the quartermasters spare buttons that were available as replacements when a Soldier lost one. This buttons was likely cast aside when it was realized it was unusable---You are seldom to find another for your collection.
Please see all pictures for complete description. This is a great button to add to your collection. Found on private property with permission of the landowner.
