Confederate Civil War Spanish Moss Saddle Blanket piece Dug Nashville, TN RARE! My late father (Frank "Tommy" Pitts), found this buried in the ground in the late 1990s in an old leather shop closed down by the Union at the beginning of the US Civil War in Nashville, TN (1863). Preserved soft objects this old are rare as they do not survive the decades. Case measures 16"x12-1/2" and weighs 2-lbs 5-oz. It is darker IRL than photos that are lightened so you can see detail.
The Confederate Spanish Moss Blanket. This case contains the remains of a saddle blanket mad of spanish moss. The remains were unearthed in Nashville, TN, and may well be the only surviving remnants of this piece of history. The blankets were used heavily by the confederate cavalry as nearly every arsenal record gives reference to their use.
