The letter reads, in full. The letter is undated, but is likely from May 1862, after Shiloh, when Ruggles was in charge of depots under Braxton Bragg, and also prior to Memphis falling to Union forces that June.
The letter measures approximately 7 1/2" x 5" (there are many examples of other Ruggles letters written upon this short-size paper--perhaps done to conserve writing material). Paper is creased once across the middle from a previous fold. It is in very good condition. Not stiff, but the paper is quite thin. Little wear to edges or corners.
The paper has that "grainy" feel typical of Confederate paper. Please see my other items for more interesting and original Civil War pieces.
