An original Civil War Order from HQ Polks Corps, Army of Tennessee at Shelbyville, Tenn, April 6, 1863 commanding General Preston Smith to report on which regiments have regimental bands, and the numbers & characters of the instruments in each band, and a list of units needing bands. The order is issued by Polk's AAG, Major Thomas M Jack, and signed by Captain John Ingram as General Smith's AAG. John Ingram was a notable Confederate officer who served under General Cheatham during the Chattanooga and Chickamauga campaigns.

On the reverse an order issued the following day, April 7, commanding the reports be sent ASAP, also sgd by Captain Ingram. 1p 8 x 6 ink on blue paper. Age spots, edge wear, Overall VG.
