Civil War 23mm North Carolina Confederate local made coat button, recovered near Cold Harbor, Virginia. These are cataloged as NC8 in Albert's Military and Historical button book. This NC8 button is the more scare variant with a drilled sheet metal shank. It is VERY uncommon to find buttons with this type of shank still attached, adding to the rarity of this Confederate war time button was made by W. Wildt & Sons, in Richmond, Virginia. Confederate local buttons were crudely made, reflecting the limited manufacturing capabilities of southern states due to the union blockade. The button shank is bent but intact, making this a very good dug specimen. This is a great addition for any Civil War button collector who appreciate relics that have seen action in the field!
