Memphis, Tennessee was perhaps the strategic location for the Confederacy and the Union on the Mississippi River after th fall of New Orleans. A complete Original 4 page issue of the Memphis Daily Appeal for Aug 28, 1861. This large size (21 x 27) newspaper features front page address by General Leonidas Polk at his HQ, Memphis, and responses by President Jefferson Davis and Thomas Nelson calling for East Tennessee citizens to support the South, and front page ads incl Nathan Bedford Forrest recruiting Ad for Mounted Rangers, incl CSA Ordnance Dept call for guns, ads fro Southern Military caps and uniforms, The Confederate Victory at Manassas, LaGrange Military Institute ad. Also ads for Cavalry Swords, etc. Damage to top of each page as shown, with some text missing and acid free archival repairs, Overall fair condition.
This is the first Confederate Memphis newspaper I have had in years. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed. I use only museum curator approved archival repair tape. All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic and in the condition as described.
