CIVIL War Georgia Confederate Surgeon Letter From Wife With Cover 1863
Doctor Erwin J Eldredge of Starkville Georgia served as Assistant Surgeon, Howell Cobb's 16th Georgia Volunteers and eventually as Chief Surgeon of the Georgia Reserve at Macon. An Original Civil War Letter from his wife Emma at Flat Rock, Lee County Georgia, January 26, 1863 to'My own dearest Erwin-news of friends, also Mr Portis, Surgeon of your Brigade invited me to send you a letter by him, while in Augusta, he says you are so beloved by all, She writes re deaths and a wedding and illnesses and news of of friends, and their son Morgan is teething. She has sent him a vest and socks, and wishes also to make him a summer vest. She wishes he could come home soon, apologizes for using mourning paper but has no other paper, the children send their love, as do friends she names, finishes with "believe me darling your affectionate and loving wife w brief postscript "Do write soon. 4p 8 x 10 on thin English paper stock (with embossed paper-maker logo) black margin mourning paper. Ink age spots, minor tears at folds, Overall VG. Comes with service info & bio for Surgeon Eldridge who when on leave also served as a volunteer doctor caring for the POWs at Andersonville Prison.
The ink is light but legible snd comes with it's original postal cover- with w age stains, the stamp has been cut off, addressed to Dr E. Eldridge care of Genl F.
