CIVIL WAR CSA CONFEDERATE MILITIA SHELL JACKET. Richmond Depot Shell Jackets are often called Army of Northern Virginia Style as well. Common features of the Richmond Depot styles are a 6 piece body, 2 piece sleeves, and 9 button front. The bottom of the jacket front has a sharp corner (square cut). The jacket is lined with cotton and has an inside left breast pocket.
This jacket is the Richmond Depot Type I and was issued late in 1861 or the beginning of 1862, was used through mid 1863, and is referred to as an "Early War" Coat. Style #1 is trimmed with branch of service colored cord piping around the collar, the shoulder straps, and the inverted "V" design on the cuff.
