THIS ITEM WAS PICKED UP IN 1978 FROM An MISSISSIPPI ESTATE by a 89 year old man. It was dug from a battle on the main confederate lines.
Please take note the part on the buckle where the snakes are attached is twisted so the buckle sits level. The more modern british military snake buckles have a round circle attachment.
