CIVIL War Confederate Petersburg Virginia Bounty Letter W Postal Cover


An Original Civil War Letter written by Charles R. Ackerly at Richmond, Aug 31, 1862 to Richmond Attorney Alex Donnan,, requesting the certificate of membership in their company, his brother I. This 1p ink letter is written on brown, lined confederate paper stock, and comes with it's original postal cover bearing a pair of 5 cent Jefferson Davis Confederate stamps. The 10th Virginia, Heavy Artillery serving as Major William Allen's Artillery Battalion defended the City of Richmond and in 1865 serving as infantry in the retreat including the Battle of Saylor's Creek, Virginia. April And finished the War with Major Allen at Appomattox Court House. Charles RC Ackerly served with C Company, 10th VA Heavies. The first two years of the War, until discharge from Chimborazoo Hospital March, 1863. 1p 8 x 5, edge wear, stains, Overall Vg. Private Ackerly of Campbell County, served to 1863 when he was honorably discharged after 2 admissions to Chimborazo Hospital. Comes with a very old typed transcript of the letter, circa early 20th century, likely made by the family.
