By the end of 1861, paper shortages forced the editors of the Confederate newspaper, The Memphis Daily Appeal to publish issues every other day with 2 days of news on one 4pp sheet. An Original Complete 4pp Issue of the Appeal for December 26 and December 25 (the front page is Dec 26 to indicate this is the latest news). The paper is also folded on the right side, unlike most newspapers that had a left side fold. I have 2 other issues for December, all are 2 day combined issues with the fold on the right side-all have identical headings front & back page, but with different stories. Ads include recruiting for the Columbus Kentucky Volunteers by Captain Reading, Confederate QM Dept hiring Negroes to serve as firemen on Government Steamers, a reward for the loss of an Ivory Handled Colt Repeater by a 1st Mississippi officer at Camp Beauregard, and ads for army caps, etc.
This paper is 21 x 27 and in Overall fair condition with Age stains, folds with wrinkles, edge wear, but complete and no missing text. Memphis, Tennessee was perhaps the strategic location for the Confederacy on the Mississippi River.
NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed. I use only museum curator approved archival repair tape. All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic and in the condition as described.
