CIVIL War Confederate Florida Money Letter 1861 Major A. B. Noyes

An Original Civil War Confederate States of America letter from CS Treasury Department Comptroller Lewis Cruger at Richmond, Virginia, October 14, 1861 to A. Noyes, (actually Henry B Noyes) at St Marks, Florida requesting a statement of the "public moneys in your hands at the time Florida withdrew from the Union".

Lewis Trezevant Cruger was a notable Charleston, South Carolinian who before the War published a Sketch of the Death and Character of Governor James Hamilton, his half-brother. He served the Confederacy as Confederate Treasury Dept Comptroller to the End of the War. Noyes was named for him. His papers reside in the University of Florida archives.
