Civil War Confederate drawing
Very unusual, and rare, possibly unique drawing of Confederate soldier, with the words "God Save the Confederacy". It is signed and dated "Virginia 1862". Drawing measures 7.75 by 10 inches and has minor foxing, and a small tear, on left side, about three inches from top. Tear measures just over an inch, and is not easily noticeable. Overall, condition is very good, considering age.

Drawing appears to be made in charcoal and is all in tones of gray. Drawing is in crude handmade, unusual frame. Some gilding, especially along lower portion of frame, is gone, and shows as white color in overall photo.

Portion of wood panel backing is also gone, with piece of ancient newspaper attached to back of drawing, likely as effort to prevent further tearing. Piece of newspaper dates to about 1900.
