CIVIL War Confederate Boyle & Gamble Richmond Va Officer Sword Cs Marked W Star
PRESERVING HISTORY, CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE BOYLE & GAMBLE RICHMOND VA OFFICER SWORD CS MARKED WITH STAR ABOVE THE CS. ETCHED BLADE WITH CONFEDERATE FLAG STARS. This sword is a beauty! It is the original Confederate officer's sword that was manufactured by the famous firm of Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia. They were one of the premier makers of edged weapons for the Confederacy. This is the pattern that is illustrated as figure 2-B in Albaugh's Photographic Supplement to Confederate Swords book. It has the classic "CS" lettering the basket of the cast brass hand guard. Just above the magic letters it has the star design. The pommel cap is present with the classic leaf pattern.
On the handle of the sword it has a good bit of the original leather grip still intact and it has all of the single strand copper wire still present just like it did when it left the factory. The blade is full-length at 28-1/2 inches with a great look. It has the classic Boyle & Gamble single blood fuller down each side and on the base of the back of the blade it has the hand hammering line which is correct for this pattern of sword. The blade still retains some of the original factory etching on each side.
You can see traces of the floral and patriotic designs. If you turn the blade just right, you can see the remnants of the Confederate flag stars. This sword is accompanied by the original leather and brass scabbard which is almost always missing as they so often are after all of this time. The sword has the Richmond mounts on the top and middle and the drag. The leather is the correct Confederate Richmond top stitch design with a couple of spots that have been restored for display and preservation.It is an attractive and desirable Confederate field & staff officer's sword from one of the most famous of all the Southern Arms Makers, Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia.
