CIVIL War Confederate 30th Virginia Veteran Cross Of Honor
The 30th Virginia Infantry was raised at Fredericksburg, Virginia, 1861 and served to the End, The unit saw action throughout the War with heavy losses of over 300 men killed or wounded during the War incl over half at the Battle off Antietam. An Original United Confederate Cross of Honor Certificate for Private William H Marck, of Company C, 30th Virginia, a resident of Petersburg, who "Served to the close of the war" when he held the rank of Sergeant. The Application is signed by Private Marck at Baltimore, Feb 23, 1903 and by William Ritter as an officer of the Society of the Army and Navy of the Confederate States, Dept of Maryland. 1 p 8 x 11 on green paper with embossed seal of the Confederate Society. Minor age darkening at edges, Left edge trimmed, Overall VG. Comes w service info- Private Marck was wounded in Action at Antietam but continued to serve as Hospital Guard and on Guard Duty at Petersburg until the end of the War. Captain William L Ritter of Carroll County, MD was a noted Confederate officer with the 3rd Maryland Artillery, 3 times wounded and the author of the "History of the 3rd Maryland Artillery".
