I try to list less common and unusual items. If purchasing multiple items, please wait for a combined invoice. This albumen stereoview printed from the Osborn & Durbec original glass plate negatives shows a Parapet View of Fort Sumter, Charleston, S. " The back of the card describes the scene as being of the northeast angle of the fort, "facing Fort Moultrie, taken the day after the evacuation of the Fort by Gen. The Armament in this angle consisted of one 42-pounder, two 8-inch Columbiads, and three 8-inch sea-coast Howitzers. The persons represented in the picture are Confederate Ordnance Officers. The photographers were James M. Durbec, who had their gallery in Charleston, South Carolina. Osborn & Durbec took among the first photographs during the Civil War, when they went to Fort Sumter in April 1861.

This image is one of those taken there during their trip. Osborn & Durbec's negatives passed down through several later photographers, who printed for them for a decade or more after the war. This card was published by S. Souder during the late 1860s. Someone crossed out something on the back of the card with a marker pen or ink of some kind.

You can still read the text and it has no effect on the image on the front of the card.
