Tall x 3 1/4 w. All parts are present including the strap holders(both). Nice dark natural patina on both the copper body and brass charger/top parts. George Rosensteel was a nephew of John H. Rosensteel, who lived through the three days of fighting in Gettysburg.
John was also the founder of the well-known Rosensteel Collection; his nephew George, an avid relic collector himself, later built his own National Museum in Gettysburg. The Rosensteel relic collection was later passed down to their daughter, Angela, who in 1941 married Larry Eckert. The Rosensteel/Eckert collection is the core of the the National Park Service museum collection. Some items have been deaccessioned by them over the years; others were held in the personal collection of the Eckerts, some of which has also been dispersed by family members following the recent deaths of Larry and Angela. To clarify the white-out and numbers, Andrew in the Office of Museum Services and he said both the Rosensteel/Eckert collection were marked this way and also the National Park Service.
The numbers started at 2 digits them to 3, 4 and now at 5 as the collection grows from newly donated artifacts. The flask is marked with white out and numbered #5458.Verified with the Office of Museum Services. Comes with signed coa and complete provenance laminated on aged parchment paper.
