Civil War January 28, 1865 Elmira New York Prison Camp C. 4th Regiment of Virginia Volunteers Company E - Confederate Prisoner of War Letter from Private John E. Booth accepting his offer of a coat, the letter was sent with a permit allowing the coat to be sent to the camp (not included) he discusses being delayed in his response due to obtaining the permit, letter is sent from the Hospital Ward Number Five - which appears to be to the West side of the Camp in 6 Barracks Type Buildings, Elmira Prison Camp was known be the internees as "Hellmira" for its terrible conditions, Letter Measures 4 7/8 x 7 3/4 Inches - Good. Condition as Photographed with wear, discoloration and fold marks as seen - An Exceptional Period Letter from a Confederate P. To Unknown Benefactor; a Superb Addition to Any Collection or Display.
