Up for sale is a 1961 restrike of the 1861 Confederate Cent, made from the original dies. Description : The token is made from bronze (mostly copper, similar to a penny), and measures approximately 19mm in diameter, the size of a penny. These restrikes were made by Robert Bashlow in 1961, who used the original (defaced) 1861 dies made by engraver Robert Lovett to make copy dies to make these coins.

Lovett was afraid he would be charged with treason for aiding the Confederacy and so he cancelled the dies. The hammer blows and chisel marks he made are clearly visible.

After being used to mint the 1961 restrikes, the dies were donated to the Smithsonian. It has been graded at MS69 RD and encapsulated by NGC. Condition : Excellent condition with great red color and no problems.
