THIS TYPE SWORD WAS ALSO USED BY EARLY CONFEDERATE FORCES EARLY DURING CIVIL WAR. FROM SOUTH CAROLINA ESTATE ALLEGEDELY CARRIED BY A CONFEDERATE MILITIA OFFICER IN THE BEGINNING OF THE WAR.

THE CROSS-GUARD DESIGN WAS VERY POPULAR WITH SOUTHERN MILITIA. The pommel is in the form of a knight's head and his linked to the flat and flared branches of the crossguard by a chainlink knuckleguard. The grip is in good condition, made of bone, round in cross section, with deeply incised geometric designs.

The blade is double edged and spearpointed. The scabbard is brass, with two carrying rings for carriage by sword slings on a waistbelt. The brass hilt and scabbard have a matching, untouched, aged patina. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Militaria\Civil War (1861-65)\Original Period Items\Edged Weapons".
