1886 25th Anniversary Civil War Confederate Troops Montgomery True Blues Broadsi
Printed for the 25th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War, this 1886 broadside is titled: The Blues at Pensacola, Florida, and at Norfolk, Virginia. It is a printing of two 1861 reports on the location of the Montgomery True Blues. The letter provides an update on the circumstances of the regiment and reassures the reader that, The boys are all well, and not a single accident has yet happened to any of us.
The second report is titled Departure of the Blues and was first printed in the Advertiser. Both reports list the officers and privates of the True Blues that were stationed in Pensacola, FL and Norfolk, VA at the time. Broadside measures: 12 x 9.
The Montgomery True Blues were a regiment first chartered in 1836 by the Alabama Legislature. The company volunteered its services in 1861 when Alabama seceded from the Union.
The True Blues participated in the capture of Fort Barrancas and Pensacola Bay, FL, and later became a part of the Third Alabama Infantry of the Confederate Army. Condition: Some chips to the lower blank margin, fold lines, and a ¾ hole toward middle of broadside with the loss of several of the letters in Montgomery, otherwise good condition.
