An interesting 1864 letter written by Captain George W. Alderson of the Confederate commissary service to Captain Isaac Shelly in Wytheville, Virginia, discussing quantities of flour, meal, candle wad, and tobacco. The letter was written on a sheet of blue lined paper measuring about 8 1/2 x 10 1/2. It is in very good condition with minor toning and edge wear. I recd your favor of yesterday, and in reply would say that I have on hand one hundred Barrels of Flour and about one thousand pounds of Meal.
Capt Williams also informs me that he has on hand six thousand pounds Flour & Meal. Have you recd the candle wax? If so please send me some. Also 20 Boxes Tobacco if you have it. Please see my other items for more interesting Civil War letters, documents, and images.
