This fantastic, Confederate Flag Cover illustration measures approx. 6" by 3 3/8" and features an all over design of the very first Confederate Flag - the "Stars and Bars" with just 7 stars which was the official National Flag of the Confederate States of America for less than 3 months from March 4 to May 21, 1861. Text in the upper red stripe reads Jeff. " and text in the lower red bar that reads "Alexr.
Text in the central white stripe reads A Secession Envelope. This Cover design was issued in the VERY earliest days of the Confederate States of America as a Confederate States Presidential Election piece. While we have owned a few examples of similar Confederate Civil War Covers, in 40+ years we have never before encountered an example with the A Secession Envelope text and our research indicates that this is among the very rarest of Confederate Civil War Patriotic Covers. The rare and wonderful, 1861 Confederate Flag design Patriotic Cover is in good to very good condition generally clean with wear and loss at the right hand edge, some light soiling and two short edge tears at the bottom edge.
