October 31, 1861, Ballard's Bridge, North Carolina, Confederate letter, with nice war content, written by Betsie Simpson, to her brother. The letter goes on to talk about the war and that the Yankee's had taken Hatteras, with 8000 soldiers there. She also writes about a battle close to her, that the Confederate's lost and that the Fort at Roanoke Island was about the only protection, to keep the Yankee's from invading her area. Several times Betsie mentions her country as the South and the Yank enemy (North), are like a foreign country, wanting to take over their land. Attached is a map of the location of Ballard's Bridge.

As you read this letter, a person can feel how worried she is about the war. This letter has excellent war content, and is nice condition.
