Confederate God And Our Rights Imported CIVIL War Saber Sword & Scabbard

This is a very handsome sword of the pattern of the British 1821 Light Cavalry Saber, but probably made in Solingen for the export market during the Civil War. It has a steel hilt and scabbard, and the blade is flat backed and single edged until about a foot from the point, and from there to the point it is double edged. The blade has the motto "God and Our Rights" engraved on it. Other than that, the sword is unmarked. The scabbard and hilt have scattered pitting, but a fairly nice even patina overall.

The blade is not pitted, but has a small number of minor edge nicks, and one dent, and shows minor remains of rust. The grip is wood, covered in shark or rayskin, and is worn, with the wood showing through, especially by the pommel. It is wrapped with three strands of copper wire, which is worn and frayed about an inch below the pommel.

The sword is 40 inches long overall. The blade is 33 inches long. The hilt and blade are tight.

The scabbard may not be original to the sword, but I believe that it is, but that the throat has been replaced. The current throat is nickled and missing both its screws. The motto, "God and Our Rights" was a popular one in the Confederacy, and was part of a popular Southern song lyric. We fully guarantee everything that we sell to be as we describe.
