Civil War Match Safe or Cap Box Confederate Gulf City Guards Mobile Alabama. Awesome piece, I was calling it a match safe or percussion cap box, but I have been informed that it is a Civil War correspondent's inkwell. It is made of brass and measures 2-7/8 inches tall x 2-1/2 inches wide x 1 inch thick. Good condition, leather has some life still. Marked "Gulf City Guards 3rd" which was a Confederate unit out of Mobile Alabama.
