Translated from the French by Eugenie Watson Somdal. Louisiana Studies Institute, Northwestern State Univ. Poche was a young lawyer from Thibodeaux, in Lafourche Parish. He kept detailed diaries of his military service to the Confederacy.

He wrote the first little books in English and the later ones in French, which were translated by his granddaughter, Mrs. Poche served as a volunteer, and was thus able to travel during periods of inactivity. His diaries thus give an unusually broad picture of Louisiana during the War.

At one time he fought with the partisan companies that continued to operate in the Florida Parishes, and he is one of the few sources for warfare in this region. The Editor has provided very extensive notes 93 pages in small print! That enlarge every aspect of Poches writing. Hardback book in Very Good-Plus condition.

Book is bright, clean, tightly bound, and the pages are unmarked except for owners name on front flyleaf. Cover is glossy but has wear at corners and spine ends. 6 x 9 inches, 352 pages.
