1862 Token/Medal Made from Armour Plating of the Confederate Ironclad Merrimac. Own a piece of American History! This token was made from salvaged iron armour plating taken from the wreck of the Confederate ironclad warship CSS Virginia, better known as the Merrimac.

Merrimac fought in the first battle between ironclad warships at Hampton Roads in 1862 against the USS Monitor during the Civil War. She became corned in the James River, and was scuttled there by her crew. Catalog info for this piece is: Schenkman ME-1. Obverse reads: The First Ironclad 1862. Reverse Reads: Made from the Armour Plate of the Merrimac.

Extremely rare to find in any condition! This specimen does have corrosion typical of this issue, as can be seen in the photos.
